Eighteen beads. Two strands of nine.
Nine beads, then nine more. Eighteen in all. Eighteen is one full day. Move one bead each time you catch the thing.
The 108 in our name is not a bead count. It is how many moments finish one practice. Eighteen a day, six times over, and that practice is yours.
A washer, some hex nuts, and a leather strap.
That is the whole parts list. A flat steel washer for the ring. Small steel hex nuts for the beads, nine on each strand. A brown leather strap through the middle of it.
None of it is precious and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It comes off a hardware shelf, and then it is cut, strung and knotted by hand, one at a time. What it is good at is being held. The nuts have flats and edges, so your thumb knows when one has moved without you having to look.

Every one is cut and knotted by hand, so the lengths vary a little from one to the next. That is why the length is a range and not a number. The ring and the drop were measured with a ruler, not guessed.
So the phone stays in your pocket.
You catch yourself doing the thing. You slide one bead. You carry on. Nothing to unlock, nothing to open, nothing to tap. Your hand keeps the count all day.
The phone comes out once. In the morning you type in yesterday’s number and read today’s one line. That is the only part the app needs from you.
The app is whole on its own.
Nothing is locked behind the beads. The app works completely without one. There is a plus button in it, and you can type the day’s number straight in. The count works the same either way. No feature is missing and nothing will nag you about it.
Plenty of people will use a rubber band, a pocket of coins, or nothing at all. That is a real answer, not a lesser one. Buy one because you want the thing in your hand, not because the app asked for it. It did not.
Want to make one instead of buying one?
Please do. We would rather you had a bead under your thumb than a receipt from us. Here is exactly what is in ours, so you can build the same thing on a kitchen table.
- Leather
- 50 inches of 4 mm flat leather cord. That is 38 inches for the neck loop, 11 inches for the two strands, and an inch spare for getting it wrong.
- Ring
- One M16 flat washer — 30 mm (about 1 3/16 in) across, a 17 mm (about 11/16 in) hole, 3 mm thick. Stainless for the silver one, black oxide for the black one.
- Beads
- Eighteen M4 hex nuts (M4-0.7). Nine for each strand.
- Knot
- A lark’s head at the washer. Fold the cord in half, pass the fold through the hole, then pull both ends through the fold and tighten.
Thread nine nuts onto each strand and knot the end so they cannot slide off. The nut hole and the cord are close to the same size on purpose. That friction is the whole trick: a bead stays where your thumb leaves it.
Tie the neck loop to whatever length suits you. Ours land somewhere around about 18 to 22 in (46 to 56 cm). Nothing about the app knows or cares where you got yours.
